Abstract

Purpose: The paper examines reasons for preserving original documents after their digitization. Methodology: The research is based on analysis of literature. Results: There are many reasons for preserving the original paper documents after digitization. For example, information loss may be unacceptable, originals are needed to prove the authenticity of the records, or there are legal reasons for keeping the originals. These issues must be considered case by case before making decisions about the fate of the records. Conclusions: One may destroy the originals after digitization. However, this requires careful consideration.
